Android M coming this year, confirmed by Google’s Hiroshi Lockheimer

Android M may be called Marshmallow or Milkshake. While we can’t confirm the name, we can confirm that M is coming this year and is likely to be announced at Google I/O. Google VP of engineering Hiroshi Lockheimer sat down and talked to Fast Company, spilling some details on Android M and the future of Android and Chrome OS. “As we’ve grown as a platform, we realize that to some extent predictability is important for the whole industry: developers, manufacturers, operators, and consumers, frankly,” Lockheimer said. “So we’ve landed with sort of a yearly cadence of big releases, so, for instance, one year we release J, the next year we release K, and then the year after that L, and then this year we’ll launch M, and so you can predict what will happen next year.”

Lockheimer was brought on by Andy Rubin himself to work on Android in the operating system’s early days. He now works directly with senior VP Sundar Pichai. He goes in depth on Android, Chrome OS, and the direction that both platforms are headed. Hit the source link to read the full interview. And know that Android M is coming this year, just like we expected.
