Android’s ‘Overlays’ App Makes Multi-Tasking a Breeze

Android is great because it allows you to customize and multi-task like no other platform can. Well, multi-tasking on Android just got even better. A new app, called “Overlays,” is now available in the Google Play Store. There is a free version and a paid Pro version.

Overlays allows the user to float any of their current widgets on top of any screen they desire. Android users are already aware that there are other apps (e.g., like Tiny Apps or Floating Notes) that allow you to pin — or to float — apps to the home screen, but with Overlays, you can do much more. For instance, you can float your favorite music app over Google maps, or even float a calculator over a spreadsheet application. This will take Android multi-tasking to a whole other level.

With the paid Pro version, you will have the ability to create your own custom Overlays profiles. You can also assign dedicated actions, like plugging in your headphones to launch your music player.

I am an avid enthusiast of everything mobile. I have used many different platforms, including Blackberry, Android, iOS – and yes – even WebOS. I want to use my experience with these platforms, and my background in engineering, to give my thoughts on the functionality of current mobile technology and its impact on the industry. I hope to foster discussion on these topics, and I am looking forward to hearing from all of you.
