APPS2SD+ for Rooted Androids

This tutorial will take you through the steps to create an appropriate partition on your SD card enabling apps2sd to function on your android device.

WHAT

APPS2SD is a script that can be used on rooted android phones to enable more space on your phone’s internal memory by using a partition on your SD card. This is totally different to froyos attempt in 2.2 update so do not get it mixed up. A2SD uses a partition that doesn’t get mounted when you mount your SD card allowing all apps to fully function with no errors.

HOW

There’s two ways to get a2SD you can download a ROM with a2SD support built in or if you have a ROM with init.d support you can flash the script separately.Visit XDA and select your device there will be loads of Roms with support and scripts in the development section.

Tutorial

This tutorial assumes you are rooted

1. This is the most important step. BACKUP all the contents of your SD Card on your computer.

2. Download GParted  in whatever form you wish live cd/USB/PXE/HD

3. Ok so now that you have made either of the above boot-able options, boot into GParted on your computer and follow the options on screen to get into GParted.

4. You have 2 options now connect your device in recovery and mount as USB mass storage or remove your Sim from phone and use a USB reader.

5. Next in the drop down menu on top right of screen select the SD card (not your computers HDD be wary).

6. Right click on the FAT 32 partition and select re size (press the up cursor on “free space following” until you have the size you wish ( I usually leave about 1GB FOR MYEXT but this is personal preference) and click on re size.

7. Now right click on unallocated space and select NEW > EXT of your choice and click apply.(i use ext 3 as its proven to be safe use for SD cards but there has been no complaints by users using others)

8. Now all you need to do is flash a rom with a2sd support or flash the script as above.

PLEASE NOTE – I AM AWARE ROM MANAGER FROM THE MARKET CAN PARTITION YOUR SD CARD BUT THERE IS NO WAY TO CHECK IF IT HAS SAFELY PARTITIONED AFTERWARDS.

The best way to check that you have partitioned correctly is to download either titanium backup or  quick system info fromthe market these apps will show you you’re newly made a2SD partition.

Any questions please feel free to ask.
