BBC working on downloading Radio shows for iPlayer app

The BBC Trust has revealed that it insisted that UK users of its very popular iPlayer app should be extended to allow users to download radio shows to their devices in the same way as TV shows have been made available – and the service should arrive by next year.

Currently, if you have an iOS device or a Windows desktop/laptop you can download television shows to watch offline, although this has understandably left Android owners a little angered.
With the radio downloads being incorporated into the iPlayer will prove to be a popular move for the BBC. Giving options to the wealth of popular shows across the publicly-funded broadcaster to download will be received as great news. As most of the popular stuff is already available as offline-ready podcasts, the BBC will see this as a plus move to have users only needing the iPlayer app for Radio as well as TV shows.

The BBC Trust’s decision has been welcomed by the BBC Director-General, Tony Hall, who was told by Director of Strategy & Digital that the anticipate the work will take “some months yet”.
When looking at this announcement it can only be good for us all. When commuting while listening to the iPlayer you can lose the signal for a few seconds just as it was getting to the punchline, so frustrating!
Right now I’m listening to Radio 2 (Steve Wright) but if I need to do out I can use my Android device to carry on listening but, knowing that the signal might fail at any given moment.

I welcome the Trust announcement and hope we don’t have to long to wait, and that it comes out for all OS’s.
