Bluetooth 4.2 will be faster and smarter say BSIG

Bluetooth4-2Great news coming from the BSIG (Bluetooth Special Interests Group) as they have revealed some interesting details regarding Bluetooth 4.2. In short they say that consumers will have improvements to privacy, battery conservation and speed when using Bluetooth 4.2.

With supporting hardware the Bluetooth 4.2 connecting to the internet via IPv6/6LoWPAN, it will make it faster as this will be a direct connection, thus we will no longer have to have access points configured or hubs for use with multiple devices. Good news for those who love things to happen fast as it will also bring a 2.5x speed boost.

Another awesome announcement that I’m sure everyone will be glad to is regarding the battery drain improvements. They didn’t go into the specifics but it’s definitely good news.

Smartphone manufacturers will support the upgrade but don’t expect it until mid-to-late 2015. Firmware updates from the current v4.1 will also come via the manufacturers.
