BT looking to get back into Mobile market, it seems

BT_HouseWhat started out as a rumour has now become fact. BT are in preliminary talks with Telefonica to buy O2 in the UK. Remember Cellnet, BT Cellnet and mmO2 before being sold to Telefonica. Well it looks like “what-goes-around-comes-around”. As BT are in the market to buy either O2 or as it turns out another network that many believe to be EE, which by all accounts is being offered in a separate deal. On Monday BT confirmed the talks following a report in the Spanish press that said Telefonica could end up with a 20pc stake in BT in exchange for O2. That would value the deal at roughly £10bn. “We have received expressions of interest from shareholders in two UK mobile network operators, of which one is O2, about a possible transaction in which BT would acquire their UK mobile business. All discussions are at a highly preliminary stage and there can be no certainty that any transaction will occur.”
