Google delay Android 5.0 Lollipop update for HTC One (M8), One (M7) GPE’s

If you have either the  Google Play Editions (GPE) of the HTC One (M8) or the HTC One, then you were probably jumping with joy when it was announced that your devices will receive Android 5.0 Lollipop this very Friday, November 21. This would have made them the first Google Play edition handsets to officially receive the latest and greatest iteration of Google’s mobile OS, right well wrong!

It has just become clear that the stock-Android version of the HTC devices won’t receive Lollipop today. This bad news got broken by Mo Versi, the Vice President of Product Management with HTC, who also broke the news about this Friday’s confectionery update. The fault is, seemingly, not in HTC, mind you – the VP claimed that the Taiwan-based manufacturer submitted the software build for the device to Google back in Monday, but Mountain View informed HTC that it will “need to re-spin SW”. Mo Versi said no more, so we don’t know when Lollipop will eventually hit the HTC One (M8) GPE and the HTC One GPE. While we don’t know the reasons behind the delay, we suspect that it has something to do with the bugs that have plagued some Nexus devices in select markets. One of the more serious ones, in particular, is the flaw that seemingly prevents users from sending text messages.
