iPhone 5 gets official announcement with 4-inch display, A6 CPU and LTE

We all usually get a surprise when it comes Apple releases but not this time. The leaks where spot on and the iPhone 5 has officially become the most leaked iPhone if not handset to grace us. Finally everyone can now calm down and just enjoy the official word. Just as the leaks showed us the new iPhone is in-fact a glass and aluminium two-tone handset. The rumour of the iPhone 5 being thinner is also true it measures just 7.6mm that’s 18 percent thinner than the 4s. It is also lighter weighing just 112 grams, that is actually lighter than the Galaxy S III. I hear you asking was the taller screen rumour true? The answer is yes, the iPhone 5 has a taller 4-inch Retina display. The new panel is 1136 x 640 and clocks in at 326ppi. As seen in the leaked pictures the new screen allows for an extra set of icons. Apple have already tweaked there Apps to take advantage of the new screen so lets hope developers are hard at work tweaking third party Apps.

Now that you know all the boring stuff lets move on to more exciting features. The iPhone 5 will pack LTE (4G) capabilities on top of the usual 3G, HSPA+ AND EDGE. If super fast 4G doesn’t get you excited maybe the new A6 CPU will. Apple is touting it as 2 times faster than the 4s chip but we will put that to the test soon enough. The A6 chip is 22% smaller than the A5 and is also more energy efficient.

The camera hasn’t really changed apart from being on a diet and getting a little slimmer to fit in the new shell. One improvement photographers will be happy about is the increased shutter speed. Apple are claiming it is 40% quicker. Another nice addition is panoramic shooting mode that will piece together a 28 mega-pixel photograph. To put the icing on the cake it shoots video in 1080p. The front facing camera has seen the biggest upgrade getting its own backside-illuminated sensor capable of capturing 720p clips.

We aint finished yet, even the speaker in the Iphone 5 has been given an upgrade. The microphone has been upgraded with a 5-magnet transducer. This will improve voice quality and hopefully help Siri understand us in the UK a little better. As we showed you a few weeks back the dock connector has in-fact been given a long overdue upgrade. The 8-Pin plug has been given the name lightning. It is 80% smaller and all digital but do not fear it will fit all your docks if you pay a premium to Apple for their adaptor.

The iPhone 5 will be running iOS 6 straight out the box. iOS 6 is a great OS and we have detailed all its offerings in our beginners section if you don’t already know. One thing that is disappointing about the iPhone 5 is that it it is not including NFC. We doubt that this will bother anyone too much but it would have been a nice edition.

As usual the iPhone 5 will ship in both Black and White. The white version will be rocking a raw aluminium back and the black will have a dark anodized body. Storage options remain at 16GB, 32GB and 64GB.As expected the iPhone 5 will start at $199 for the 16GB model, while the 32GB will cost $299 and the 64GB $399.Shipments in the US, Canada, UK, Germany, France, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore start on September 21st, but  pre-orders start on the 14th.
