O2 New- Refresh tariff lets you get a new phone whenever you want

O2 has announced today a new monthly tariff for customers in the UK that want to be able to get a new smartphone whenever they want. The plan is called O2 Refresh and it will be available from April 16. O2 say that this is the first 24-month tariff that separates the cost of the phone from the cost of calls, texting, and data.

On the face of it this sounds like a good deal but, how does Refresh work?

A customer buys a HTC One on O2 Refresh and chooses to pay £17 per month for their Airtime Plan and gets unlimited minutes, unlimited texts and 1GB of data. They then choose to pay £20 per month for their Phone Plan and pay £49.99 up front, meaning their combined O2 Refresh tariff costs £37 per month, the same as they would pay on a standard 24 month Pay Monthly contract**. The total amount they will pay for the phone is £529.99.

There is no penalty for canceling the calling plan early. Once you choose your new phone, you simply start over with a new calling plan and go on about your business. O2 also says that customers who don’t want to choose new phones frequently will benefit from Refresh as well.

Once you pay off your Phone Plan with Refresh, the only thing you’ll pay for monthly is the cost of your airtime. Refresh Airtime Plans start at £12 monthly for 600 talk minutes, unlimited text, and 750MB of data. A £17 monthly plan brings unlimited minutes, unlimited texting, and 1GB of data with a £22 plan available bringing unlimited talk contacts with 2GB of data.
