O2 UK Closing its Mobile Wallet

o2-money-ClosingDownTelefonica’s UK brand O2, is closing it’s much hyped Money Mobile Wallet. The network is shutting down the service on March 31st There was very little appeal to customers and as such was easily forgotten about. That little bit of plastic tucked in the back of your wallet can now be dusted off.   Both the market and O2’s parent company Telefonica have changed in the past two years, the provider tells Computerworld UK.

We can’t say we’re shocked by the closure when there are now many more ways to pay with your phone in the country; it’s a fiercely competitive space.

What happens to the money in my O2 Wallet account?

This is what O2 say you must do:
You’ll need to take it out or spend it before we close on 31 March.

If you don’t, we’ll either:

  • send it to the bank account you have registered in your O2 Wallet, or
  • send a cheque to your registered address.
