Olixar aren’t a company who were on my radar, but I was more than happy to check out some of their products. The BoomBrick is a bluetooth speaker, which like its namesake is the size of a brick, but thankfully that is where the similarities end.

In the box you get the standard things, 3.5mm cable, microUSB charging cable and some manuals. I am a massive fan of matte black, and these speaker is covered head to toe in it. The finish is almost soft, has a great overall look to it. Apart from the Olixar logo on the top, there is very little branding on the BoomBrick which is nice to see.

Controls run along the top and include track skip, volume, and a single button for turning on, pausing and picking up calls. The front is the speaker grill which has some fancy design on the front and adds a little character to the speaker. The bottom has some rubber feet, which when placed on a desk stop it from being knocked.

The included 1200mAh battery isn’t too big, so the weight of the speaker isn’t anything to worry about.

Charging the BoomBrick from empty to full took around 3 hours to do. I managed to get around 9 hours of music out of the speaker, this was over a number of weeks, turning it on for 30 mins at a time in the mornings.

Setting up was a breeze, and involved turning it on, and then connecting to my phone. The connection was instant and then stayed up until the bluetooth was turned off.

The two 3 watt speakers give out some excellent bass. I found though this is more of a desk speaker, than a room speaker. As even on full volume it failed to fill a room with music, though it is perfect when typing on the computer and listening to some tracks.

Hands free calling was perfect, with me hearing people fine, and them hearing me without having to get too close.
