Pebble set to unveil $249 steel smartwatch and app store at CES 2014

Just as we expected Pebble has been busy working on a new smartwatch and as you can see from the image above its constructed from steel and it will be unveiled here at CES 2014 a publication reports. What’s more is the company is set to launch it’s own dedicated app store for more Pebble optimized apps.

The guys over at re/code where lucky enough to give the new hardware a spin ahead of the show and say that the new Pebble Steel will target consumers looking for better quality materials other than the plastic offered by the original Pebble. Its not only the steel that’s new as the new Pebble will also come with Corning’s Gorilla Glass.

The new wearable is set to be available in two versions including brushed stainless and matte black, both of which are waterproof, and the price will be set at $249 when it ships at the end of January. As you would expect the new Pebble will have swappable metal and leather bands and connect to both Android and iOS devices. The battery life will also be as good as ever and the new Pebble Steel will have 5-7 days of battery life to keep you connected.

The new app store also has us very interested with apps like Yelp, Foursquare and GoPro being the first to be announced. We are pretty sure many more will follow so stay tuned.

The smart watch battle is going to be intense this year so stay tuned for all the latest updates and reviews. If you want kept up to date on all the news from CES 2014 then look no further.
