PS3 4.45 firmware update reportedly bricking consoles

Sony has pulled the 4.45 PlayStation 3 update due to forums being flooded with users complaining that the latest patch was leaving consoles stuck without an XMB interface.

The purpose of the update was to improve system stability and add options for in-game trophy notifications but users unlucky enough to update before it was pulled are left staring at the sparkly wave pattern. I can only imaging the hardcore gamers among us who where about to fire up The Last Of Us will be less than impressed especially with how addictive it is.

All means of recovery attempts do not appear to help so hopefully Sony will get the finger out ASAP. We have contacted Sony so if we get a response well let you know.
