Sainsbury’s app will allow you to pay as you shop

in_store_shopping_appSainsbury’s, one of the top four Supermarkets in the UK is set to trial a new smartphone app that will let you Pay-as-you-Shop.

Having picked your groceries up the last thing you want to do is queue at the checkout right!  Well now you dont have to as the trial of the new app will allow you to miss the queue and bag your goods as you go round the store.

The app will

  • Allow customers to build a virtual basket of favourite products from anywhere, before they shop
  • Navigate customers around the shop to find their predicted items faster
  • Scan items at the shelf and pay through a mobile – no till queues required

Jon Rudoe, Digital and Technology Director at Sainsbury’s, said:

“We know that customers’ weekly shop doesn’t start at our front door – they know what they like and they also like that search for a bargain. They still want to come into store – but with limited time, they want to be able to get their shop done quickly. That’s why we’re putting digital firmly at the forefront of our agenda, and putting technology in the hands of our customers.”

It is being trialled with Sainsbury’s teams in stores in the next few weeks and will be first available to Nectar cardholders later next year.

We are not sure which OS the app will be available on but its safe to assume iOS and Android will be the first but, hopefully Windows and Blackberry versions will also be available so as many people as possible can take advantage.
