Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth announced

Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth announced

Firaxis has announced that its next game will be Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth. The announcement was made on Saturday during a PAX East 2014 panel.

Beyond Earth will allow players to explore and colonise new alien worlds. It has been described as:

A spiritual successor to 1999’s Alpha Centauri.

During the panel, Will Miller, co-lead designer for Firaxis, said:

The heart and soul [of Alpha Centauri] lives at Firaxis. For all the fans of Alpha Centauri, this is the game we’ve made for you.

Designer David McDonough added:

The biggest systematic change for Civ 5 is that tech is a web, not a tree. By the end of the game you’ve got 70% of the web.

Features on the game are said to include a quest system and three new world types. Orbital units can be commanded like satellites, according to VG247.

Civilization: Beyond Earth is scheduled for release on PC in Autumn.
