Sony SmartWatch 2 unveiled, a second screen for your Android device

Sony’s first SmartWatch wasn’t that great but it has not deterred them from giving it another go with today’s announcement of the SmartWatch 2. The new Android powered SmartWatch is pretty similar when it comes to functionality as its predecessor allowing users to answer calls, read emails and take pictures. This time round Sony have increased the screen size to 1.6-inches and wrapped it all up in a lovely aluminium body that just happens to be dust and water resistant (IP57) just like the Xperia Z. Just so users can ensure the watch fits there styling needs Sony has made it so that you can swap the aluminium wristband for any 24mm strap you like including the ones that Sony will put on sale at a later date.

The SmartWatch 2 also features support for NFC and Bluetooth 3.0 so pairing it with any compatible device running Android 4.0 or higher will be a breeze. Battery life seems very respectful with Sony claiming we will see a whole 4 days with moderate use so if you are like me you may only get 2 days, but those who don’t go crazy could get up to a week. There is no pricing available yet and Sony have said that the global release date is roughly Septenber. Hopefully we will be able to give this a test before then but until then the press release is below with more details. What do you think about the SmartWatch 2? Are you tempted?
