Swiss watchmaker Swatch coming to the Smartwatch market

swatch-logo2When it comes to smartwatches the first names you think of are Pebble and Galaxy Gear, maybe not in that order. Now with the likes of Qualcomm with the Toq and others getting ready to release smartwatches it was only a matter of time before the traditional watchmakers started to see the light, and Swatch certainly can bring flair to the market.

“The smartwatch is an opportunity for us, whatever happens. If people who never used to wear anything on their wrist start wearing a so-called smartwatch, then we certainly can convince them quickly to try wearing a beautiful watch instead. “We have all the know-how but we do not want to build up stock of technology bombs people won’t want to buy.”

-Nick Hayek, CEO, Swatch

We have also seen rumours that Sekonda and Cisco have smartwatches in development.
