When news broke about Android M, they introduced some pretty neat features like Now on Tap, Android Pay and my favorite App permissions. Now, I’m still running Android 4.4.4 on my Samsung Galaxy S4 (thanks a lot Samsung) so chances of me getting M are pretty low. But I’m not going to let that stop me from missing out. Instead, I was able to find one of M’s features in the Play store.
Can’t wait for Android M?
App Ops Starter
“App Ops” is the Android 4.3’s and 4.4 Hidden App Permission Manager.
It lets you selectively disable some permissions for your apps!
This little tool makes it easier to access this hidden Permission Manager.
App Ops Starter lets you control what your apps can access (e.g. location, camera). “You can finally tell that flashlight app to stop accessing your location.” I know what you’re thinking, “I need be Rooted right?” No you don’t and that’s the awesome part of this app, you get complete control of every app on your phone without rooting your device.
The app is pretty straightforward. There’s five different categories, Location, Messaging, Personal, Media & Device. Lets say for some odd reason you don’t want Google Maps to know your location. You simply open the app (App Ops) go to location, scroll down until you find Google Maps select the app and from there you can deselect Location. There, Google no longer knows where you are!
So far, the app hasn’t given me any problems. You should just pay attention to what you’re altering and you should be good.
**Disclaimer: BE CAREFUL WHEN MESSING AROUND WITH AN APPS PERMISSIONS. IF YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT THE APP DOES, LEAVE IT ALONE. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT HAPPENS TO YOUR PHONE.
