Vodafone UK to release Huawei Ascend Mate

In a blog post today, Vodafone confirmed that it’ll be carrying the Ascend Mate, but offered no hints as to when the gigantic handset will be launching, nor how much it’ll cost.

Given the specs:

  • 720p display resolution,
  • 1.5GHz custom quad-core CPU
  • 2GB of RAM

We’d expect the mate to come in somewhere below the current crop of high-end Android phones.

James Powell, UK Product Director at Huawei said:

“Battery life is hugely important, Miniaturisation and power optimisation of batteries are two really significant areas of Huawei’s engineering. You need products that are really power efficient, have big batteries and that will really last and last.”

Of course the Mate is no longer alone in the six-plus-inch smartphone space. Sony’s Xperia Z Ultra, which packs an even larger 6.4-inch display. That device will be heading to Three UK later in the year.
