Xbox One X – Brand New And More Powerful Than Ever

If you somehow haven’t seen the announcement of the latest and greatest from Xbox, here is everything you need to know about the upcoming console.

Its sporting a new design – The Xbox One S was nice but it looked a little bit like a VCR for 2016. The new One X retains some cues from the last gen model, but its ditched the circular design at the front and instead gone for a more sleek approach.  This is a real welcome design change. The form factor is set to stay at a similar size too, which is impressive as the One X will be quite significantly more powerful.

So not only is it better looking than last years offering its going to be much more powerful.  The One X will be utilising a full 8 core AMD based CPU clocked at 2.3GHz this is much faster in comparison to the One S that only had a speed of 1.75GHz. The One X is also using a much beefier GPU. The X will use a 12GB GDDR5 card which is a huge 6 Teraflops, this also uses high bandwidth memory that is capable of speeds up to 326GB/sec. Compare this to the One S that only used a GPU capable of 1.31 Teraflops and you can see the difference is huge. The One X will also use 8GB RAM and have a built in 1TB HDD. Aside from that the One X is now more powerful than the Playstation 4 Pro and will be capable of producing 4K (3840×2160) at higher frame rates. Whether it will hit an avg of 60FPS in the real world is yet to be seen.

The One X will also feature HDR 10, AMD Freesync, DTS, Bluetooth, built in WiFi and IR capabilities. It will also include 2 HDMI. One of those will be a 2.0b (out) and 1.4b (in). It also has three USB 3.0 ports, S/PDIF, Ethernet and PCM 2.0, 5.1 and 7.1.

Then next big upgrade is in the cooling department. The X will be using a newly designed system that is set to be the quietest and coolest to date.  That’s not surprising as its going to be the most powerful too. The new cooling system is based on a supercharger style centrifugal fan that will potentially reduce noise output and increase cooling performance. Whether this works when its pushing 4K gaming for hours is yet to be seen. It’ll be especially interesting to see how it holds up in warmer climates with higher ambient temps.

The final upgrade is to audio. The One X will have a new feature called Spatial Audio. This is set to improve immersion and enhance the overall experience of your game. The new system will try and re-create a more three dimensional sound to draw you into the game even more. This could benefit you if you use a home theatre system, Dolby Atmos or DTS, but if you just use your TV speakers, I’m not sure you’d likely experience this new addition.

So this is set to be the best console from Microsoft ever, but to get the most from it, it sounds like your going to be needing a 4K HDR10 compatible TV with an audio system that’s better than what a standard TV can provide. Luckily 4K HDR TVs are much cheaper now, but still if you don’t have one, it’s an extra expense that you’d need to get the best experience from the new One X.

Last up pricing and release. This is stated to cost $499 US and likely the same if not more in the UK. This is no surprise as we usually have to pay an extra premium for new tech. Release is slated to the 7th November just in time for the holiday season.
