Android 4.4 KitKat Photo Editor has Updated Layout and Powerful Features

kitkat photo editing

Google recently updated the Snapseed photo-editing app with new features and an enhanced HDR mode, but the stock Android Gallery-based photo editor is getting a big upgrade in 4.4 KitKat too. The new editor will be pushed out with the Android 4.4 update, but it’s also part of the Android Open Source Project (AOSP).

The updated photo editor layout supports both smartphones and tablets. It keeps a lot of the filters and effects that were already in the Gallery photo editor, but you’ll now have much finer control over these options. You can make local adjustments, adjust the per-channel saturation, make use of new gradient filters, and you’ll even find vignettes now. Google really loves those vignettes. You can even save presets, which should make for faster image editing.

This is a non-destructive photo editor, meaning that your original image is not affected when you begin editing. You can save the adjusted image and still keep the original in it’s untouched state. This is a solid update that will benefit beginners and experts alike.
