It’s news like this that get’s people’s blood boiling first thing in the morning. According to The Telegraph , all 650 Members of Parliament (MP) in our wonderful country will receive an iPad Air 2 and a new laptop after the elections this May. The new tech is set to cost around £200,000 over the next five years, which is certainly not chump change.
Each MP is set to receive a 16GB Wi-Fi + Cellular iPad Air 2, which costs £499 and was chosen as it is popular among MP’s. Even our wonderful Prime Minister David Cameron will be getting a new toy while people like us struggle to get a wage rise each year. There are however some MP’s who feel like we do and think the idea is absurd. Shadow Cabinet Office minister Chi Onwurah complained that MPs would use the new gadget to play games and listen to music rather than actually use it for it’s purpose. An example of this stupidity waa demonstrated by Nigel Mills who was caught playing Candy Crush while on the job. Onwurah also mentioned that “locking some of the most powerful people in the country into a platform that most of my constituents can’t afford seems like a mistake.” In response, Commission chairman John Thurso said, “Our requirements are for a secure, SIM-enabled tablet with a good life expectancy and [capability] of supporting future upgrades. The Apple iPad Air 2 meets these requirements and is competitively priced when compared with similar models.”
Overall I wonder with the wages these people are on could those who will actually use it for work purpose not just buy it? It seems a lot of money to use on something that is certainly not an important issue. Let me know your thoughts below.
